LOCKLAND MAYOR'S COURT

Honorable Jim Brown: Mayor

Honorable Anthony Gertz: Magistrate

Gerald Grubbs: Prosecutor

Col. James Toles: Chief of Police

Carrie Surber: Clerk of Courts       (513) 761-1124

You may contact the Clerk of Courts after reading the information provided if you have any further questions regarding your citation.  Please remember, the Clerk of Courts is not allowed to issue legal advice, only facts surrounding your case (i.e. court date, pay-out amount, copy of ticket.)

Continuances:

If you are unable to pay by your court date or need more time to seek counsel, we offer continuances.  Your first continuance for two weeks can be issued through the office between the hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday.  Continuances must be done in person by the individual the citation is issued to. Any additional continuances must be issued by the Judge at your court appointment.  If you seek more time than the two weeks, then you must come to your court appointment and ask the Judge and he will make the determination whether it is admissible.  The Village of Lockland does not offer Stay to Pays (payment plans).

Payment:

We accept Cash, Check, Money Order and Mastercard or Visa.  Credit cards are accepted over the phone or in person. Make check or money order payable to the

Village of Lockland. Address envelopes to Lockland Traffic Violations Bureau.

Failure to Appear or Pay Fine by Assigned Court Date:

Failure to pay the indicated fine or appear in court on the court date listed on your citation will lead to a warrant being issued for your arrest and suspension of your Driver's License and THIS INCLUDES NON-OHIO RESIDENTS. Payment must be received by court date assigned.

Insurance:

Ohio State Law requires proof of insurance.  If financial responsibility proof shown is not marked "yes" on your citation, you must show proof to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

If you do not show proof of your financial responsibility as of the date of the offense the Bureau of Motor Vehicles will suspend your operator's license and a reinstatement fee will be required.

Pleas:

Guilty: The Judge will make inquiry of the facts and determine the penalty.

No Contest:  The plea will not be construed as an admission of any fact at issue in the charge in any subsequent actions or proceedings, whether civil or criminal.  In the event of such a plea, the Judge will inquire into the facts and make a finding of guilty or not guilty.

Not Guilty: The case will be continued to the next session at which time all witnesses will be sworn and testimony will be heard, after which the Magistrate will render a decision.

If you are in doubt as to whether you are or are not guilty, the Court requests that you enter a plea of "Not Guilty"
